About my Reindeer

At Our Real Santa Experience we hope to share many stories of Christmas traditions, histories and North Pole stories for you to enjoy throughout the year.

Children often ask me about my reindeer. Of course, we usually end up talking about Rudolph. So, let me tell you a little about all my reindeer.

As you know I have 8 reindeer who pull the sleigh every Christmas Eve. They are Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen.

They all have their place in order of their skills on the team and this is how I have organised the team so it flies at it’s best.

Those who are quick and light-footed are harnessed at the front of the team. That would be Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and Vixen. With the slightest touch of the reins, those sure-footed reindeer can turn quickly and lead the others.

Next there is Comet and Cupid just behind them. They are the encouragers of the team. They call out to those in the lead, helping them to keep up the pace so that all of the presents will be delivered on time to all of the boys and girls around the world.

At the rear is Donder and Blitzen. These two are my strongest reindeer. They are so strong and powerful, they can get a fully loaded sleigh up and flying with a single bound.

Do you know what the words, “Donder” and “Blitzen” mean? In German, Donder means, “Thunder”, and Blitzen means, “Lightning”. That’s because Donder and Blitzen are so strong and powerful.

So how do they fly? As you know the Christmas Spirit is what runs everything up here at the North Pole. (more about that in another story) but It’s the Christmas Spirit that makes the reindeer fly and of course my sleigh.

Without the Christmas Spirit I would have no magic and we wouldn’t get the reindeer or sleigh off the ground. So remember to keep your Christmas Sprit all year long and strong enough to reach the North Pole and keep us going.
